I have arrived and begun work at Hoohlo Primary School in Maseru. The school is just inside Lesotho, near the Maseru Bridge border post. If you want to see where it is, this South African street map link will show you. http://www.streetmaps.co.za/detail.asp?ref=7FF51B64BAB4470FA9E480155ACBE9F0
There are 7 different year groups in the school. Class 1 is the same as Year 2 and so on. The children have to pass a test at the end of the year to go up to the next class, and stay to repeat the year if they don’t pass. There is a big exam at the end of Class 7 (Year 8) that the children need to pass to get into secondary school.
School (and everything else) has been a bit difficult this week because there have been heavy rains. These have flooded the rivers and cracked the pipes that bring water to people’s homes and schools. Some schools have closed in Maseru for the week but we have stayed open, just a bit drier and smellier than usual!
